Mary Washington Healthcare makes generous contribution to support FRED Transit service.
Continuing its longstanding support of transit service in the region, the Mary Washington Healthcare System has once again awarded FRED Transit a significanat grant. The grants were made by the the Mary Washington Hospital Community Service Fund and the Stafford Hospital Community Service Fund. The grants, which total over $50,000, qualify both hospitals as Major Partners, which in turn entitles their employees to ride FRED for free upon showing a valid ID. Other benefits of being a Major Partner include: free on-board advertising, a seat on the Public Transit Advisory Board, recognition on FRED promotional materials.

FRED relocates Onville Road stop in Stafford County on the D4 route.
In response to concerns about the safety and convenience of FRED's current stop location on Onville Rd near Garrison Woods Dr, FRED has relocated the stop around the corner to Garrison Woods Rd. This improvement is being undertaken with the cooperation of Stafford County, which has installed a shelter at the new site. The move took place Monday, October 3, 2011. You can view a picture of the new shelter here (you may need to rotate the image to see it properly). The shelter is one of several obtained by the County with the assistance of ARRA funds disbursed by the federal government.
In addition, as FRED buses will now make the turn onto Garrison Woods Dr, they will continue to the end of the roadway, where a new bus stop (#441) has been installed. This will significantly reduce the distance most Garrison Woods residents will have to walk to the nearest FRED stop.
No other changes to the D4 route are being made.
