Accessible Transportation
Providng Transit Service to All. FRED is committed to providing accessible transportation to the entire community. All vehicles are equipped with wheelchair lifts and all drivers are trained in proper wheelchair securement procedures. Drivers will assist persons on and off the bus when needed and make bus stop announcements regularly. Drivers are trained in passenger assistance, defensive driving, first aid CPR to make your trip safe and enjoyable. At no fare, one personal care attendant may accompany riders who need special assistance; please communicate any such arrangements to your driver when boarding.
Request Route Deviations 24 Hours in Advance. Route deviation requires twenty-four hour advance notification and cannot exceed the 3/4-mile or two minute off-route limit. Please call FRED Central at 540.372.1222 with your request; be prepared to give your name, telephone number, location of pickup, final destination, day of pickup, time of pickup, and estimated time of return. FRED staff reserves the right to determine final routing, scheduling, and place of pickup and return.
We are not able to offer route deviation service on our morning and evening VRE feeder routes due to their tight schedules and limited stops.

Bicycle Racks
FRED has external bicycle racks to accommodate bicyclists who use the bus. You must receive permission to use the bicycle rack from the driver prior to mounting your bicycle.
Please secure your bicycle by latching the main frame bar onto the bicycle rack using straps or bungee cords (some provided). You are responsible for securely fastening your bicycle to the rack, and FRED cannot be responsible for loss or damage to your bicycle. Use the racks at your own risk; and please be careful not to damage the bus while loading and unloading your bicycle.
Charters & Leases
Consistent with Federal regulations (49 CFR Part 604), FRED does not charter its buses to pre-formed groups. For those desiring to charter a bus in the Fredericksburg Region, FRED recommends that you visit the Federal Transit Administration website, which lists registered private charter companies by region.
Also, FRED does not lease its vehicles to private bus companies.
